Nondestructive Testing Laboratory

UHSEP’s NDT Laboratory staff includes over 40 Level II certified experts in all types of non-destructive testing, with long track records including Major Projects being executed in Russia (Yamal LNG, Sakhalin-2, ESPO pipeline, Zapolyarye-Purpe pipeline).

UHSEP’s NDT Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment allowing performing the following tests:
  • Ultrasonic tests (ultrasonic flaw detection and WT inspection);
  • Acoustic emission tests;
  • Magnetic tests (MPT, Metal magnetic memory);
  • Eddy current tests;
  • Penetrant tests (dye penetrants, leak detection);
  • Vibration diagnostics;
  • Thermal control;
  • Visual and dimensional checks;
  • Special tests (portable hardness meter);

The experts are experienced in calculating remaining life expectancies using API 579/ASME FFS Recommended Practice Fitness For Service which includes the aspects and phenomena of fracture mechanics of pipelines and tanks if they have defects and damages, and mathematical models for remaining life quantitative estimation.

Step-by-step three-level assessment of availability of the equipment with defects is applied, taking into account the synergistic influence of external and internal factors affecting the processes that change the energy potential of the equipment material.
